Former President Donald Trump has withdrawn his previous endorsement of Republican politician Blake Masters and instead thrown his support behind Abe Hamadeh in the Arizona primary race.

Trump took to Truth Social to make the announcement, urging his supporters to back Hamadeh.

“Abe Hamadeh is a veteran, a former prosecutor and fearless fighter for our elections. He will be a true WARRIOR in Congress, and always put America First! As everyone knows, Abe fought for our Country overseas, and knows that the American people are demanding the kind of bold leadership that ushered in peace and prosperity just three years ago,” Trump said.

“Abe Hamadeh is Strong on the Border, the Military/Vets, Crime, Cutting Taxes, Election Integrity, and Protecting our Great Second Amendment. He knows that if the flame of freedom is extinguished, it may never come back again.

“These are the reasons why I am giving Abe Hamadeh my Complete and Total Endorsement in his quest to be the Congressman from District 8, representing the Great State of Arizona—He will never let you down!” he concluded in his endorsement.

Blake Masters, who previously received Trump’s endorsement in the 2022 Senate election in Arizona, faced defeat at the hands of Democratic Senator Mark Kelly.

After this loss, Masters contemplated running for office again, but he encountered a lukewarm response from former allies such as Senators Josh Hawley and J.D. Vance.

The lack of support from these prominent figures prompted Masters to change his plans and endorse Kari Lake, a candidate favored by Trump. However, Masters’ decision to run for the House of Representatives was met with a surprising twist when Lake endorsed his primary rival, Abe Hamadeh, shortly after Masters entered the race.

The Influence of Peter Thiel

During the 2022 election, Blake Masters and J.D. Vance were supported by Republican billionaire Peter Thiel, who was described as Masters’ mentor in the media. Thiel, a prominent donor to Trump’s 2016 campaign, recently expressed disappointment in the Trump administration, stating that it did not meet his expectations. Thiel announced that he would not financially support any presidential candidate in 2024. It was rumored that Trump called Masters to dissuade him from running for the Senate again and referred to Thiel as a “fucking scumbag” when he declined to provide further financial support.

The Impact of Trump’s Endorsement

Trump’s endorsement carries significant weight within the Republican Party, often swaying voters and influencing the outcome of primary races. With his endorsement of Abe Hamadeh, Trump has dealt a blow to Blake Masters’ campaign. The sudden shift in support has raised questions about Masters’ standing within the party and his ability to rally the base. Additionally, the endorsement highlights Hamadeh’s alignment with Trump’s policies and positions, giving him a considerable advantage in the primary race.
