Apparently, that crackdown on crime in Washington, D.C., is working out swell. The cops last week nabbed Ashli Babbitt’s mother — for jaywalking.

Former President Donald Trump was among those who were not amused by the incident.

According to Breitbart News, Micki Witthoeft, the 58-year-old mother of Babbitt, a Donald Trump supporter and the only person killed during the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol, was arrested for refusing to get out of the street during a demonstration to mark the two-year anniversary of her daughter’s death.

A U.S. Capitol Police officer, Lt. Michael Byrd, shot and killed Babbitt as she tried to enter part of the facility. Prosecutors declined to pursue charges against Byrd, who reportedly, based on accounts of witnesses, simply shot first and asked questions later.

Not so long ago, liberal-city cops refused to force protesters out of congested metro streets when protesting for “justice.” Times change, especially for conservatives.

Breitbart reported that Witthoeft and others were walking on a street near the U.S. Capitol when police, who tried to block them from getting closer to the Capitol, demanded that the group get out of the road.

They refused after repeated warnings of arrest, and Witthoeft subsequently turned around and offered her hands to police.

Unlike radical Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez during her “protest” of Roe v. Wade being overturned, Witthoeft apparently was handcuffed and taken into custody, a video of the incident showed.

Police claimed the group did not have a permit to assemble on Capitol grounds. Witthoeft was released later Friday afternoon and issued a citation for a court appearance at a later date.

On Saturday, according to Post Millennial, Trump issued a lengthy statement defending Witthoeft and criticizing police.

“We have a weaponized country right now with law enforcement. It’s a disgrace what’s happening to our country. Ashli Babbitt’s mother was arrested yesterday, because she was protesting the death of her daughter being shot by a lunatic who got a record of — not so good,” Trump said during a CPAC event at Mar-a-Lago, his Palm Beach estate.

He was referring to Byrd and continuing, the former president added, “And then they try and protect him and they do things — what they’ve done to that family.”

“That they shot her, there was no reason, and then they arrested — because the mother was in a group — and they arrested yesterday the mother of Ashli Babbitt. So she loses her daughter, and then on top of it, she gets arrested,” Trump continued.

“We’re not gonna let this go on. We’re not gonna let this go on. These people are horrible, horrible people. And what they’ve done to protesters. I mean, these were protesters; they were protesting a dishonest election,” Trump added.

“And whenever you mention that they don’t want to ever talk to you because they don’t want to have that out there. The one thing they don’t want to talk about is a dishonest election. Because they know, and they’ve been caught.”
