Hollywood’s celebration of its best work for 2023 made it almost to the end without even mentioning former President Donald Trump.
Then host Jimmy Kimmel did so — and Trump responded by calling him “even dumber than I thought.”
On Sunday, during an interview with Fox News, Trump was asked about the Oscars’ frontman, a notoriously woke Trump-hating liberal, reading his post on Truth Social.

To recap, as the broadcast neared its end, just before the capstone presentation of Best Picture, Kimmel announced he had a review. He then read live from Trump’s post, which said:
“Has there EVER been a WORSE HOST than Jimmy Kimmel at The Oscars. His opening was that of a less than average person trying too hard to be something which he is not, and never can be. Get rid of Kimmel and perhaps replace him with another washed up, but cheap, ABC ‘talent,’ George Slopanopoulos. He would make everybody on stage look bigger, stronger, and more glamorous. … MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Kimmel responded by saying, “Well, thank you President Trump. Thank you for watching, I’m surprised you’re still up. Isn’t it past your jail time?”
The crowd hooted in laughter.
Yet as was later reported, Kimmel read the post and got in his jab over the objections of the show’s producers, including his wife.

One reason is that it led to a rushed announcement of the biggest prize of the night.
Trump, in that interview on Sunday, noted that he “never expected” Kimmel to do that.
“Jimmy Kimmel is every night, he hits me, I guess. His ratings are terrible. He’s not a talented guy. I hear he hits me all the time. So I figured I’d hit him because I thought he was a lousy host,” Trump explained to Fox News host Howard Kurtz.
“Now the big story is that they all begged him not to do it. ‘Don’t do it,’ and he probably stupidly, you know, he had to act in a short period of time, like minutes, right? He had minutes because he’s on air. He sees this thing, and he wants to go out there, and he wants to, I guess, confront me in a cell,” Trump continued.
“And he ends up reading my truth,” which is what Trump calls posts on his social media platform, Truth Social.
“I said, ‘This guy is even dumber than I thought.’ The thing went viral. It’s been all over the world now, and all he had to do is keep his mouth shut.”
