In a statement Friday, former President Donald J. Trump called on President Biden to apologize to all Americans.
“Joe Biden must apologize to America for allowing the Military to leave before civilians and for allowing $85 Billion dollars worth of sophisticated military equipment to be handed over to the Taliban (and Russia and China so they can copy it) rather than bringing it back to the United States,” Trump said.
On Thursday, days after the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, the Taliban seized dozens of aircraft and thousands of weapons, vehicles, and pieces of high-tech equipment that were funded by the U.S. government.
Billions of dollars worth of military equipment that the U.S. gave to the now-defunct Afghan military has been obtained by Taliban insurgents, officials with knowledge of the situation told Reuters. The massive weapons stockpile left behind in the Middle Eastern nation includes valuable technology such as night-vision goggles, unmanned aerial vehicles, and Black Hawk combat helicopters.
“Everything that hasn’t been destroyed is the Taliban’s now,” an anonymous U.S. official told Reuters on Thursday.
Current and former officials said the federal government is increasingly concerned the technology could be obtained or sold to U.S. enemies like Iran, China, and Russia which have vowed to maintain a diplomatic relationship with the insurgents who now possess the weaponry, Reuters reported.
Rep. Ronny Jackson, the former White House doctor who treated both Presidents, Barack Obama and Donald Trump, called on President Joe Biden to resign on Friday.
The Texas Republican, as the Tampa Free Press has reported, has become at least the fifth GOP lawmaker to urge Biden to step down in the wake of the disastrous pullout from Afghanistan.
“We’re looking horrible right now on the world stage. This is an absolute national embarrassment. And instead of being out in front of this and talking about what’s going on, and what went wrong, and what the plan was, and what we’re gonna do next, Biden’s just been in hiding again, as he always has,” Jackson said
“It hasn’t inspired any confidence in our allies. As a matter of fact, all of our allies are very upset with this. As of today, you know, the Brits, the Germans, the French, they’re very upset with us for pulling out, and we didn’t really even give them any heads up,” added Jackson. “We put them in a bad position too. They have people stuck in Afghanistan now that they’re having to try to get out.”
Continuing, Jackson said, “So this is a horrible situation for this country. Biden, once again, has failed us. He’s embarrassed us internationally. And you know, honestly, it is time for him to leave.”
“He’s not cognitively prepared to be our president. And this is just another example of his failure. And I think a lot of this is relevant to his cognitive ability. But he’s created a national security disaster for this country right now. And it’s time for him to move on, and somebody else needs to do this job. He is not fit to be our commander in chief. It’s time for him to resign.”
