President Donald J. Trump on Tuesday issued an official proclamation recognizing World Autism Awareness Day, highlighting the increasing prevalence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in the United States and reaffirming his administration’s commitment to addressing childhood health challenges through research, early detection, and support.

In the proclamation, Trump declared April 2, 2025, a day for all Americans to recognize the millions of citizens living with autism and the families and communities who support them.

“Their proud perseverance in overcoming tremendous hurdles is emblematic of the strength and grit that makes America great,” the president wrote. “The First Lady and I extend our heartfelt appreciation to the families, friends, and communities aiding Americans with ASD as we empower every citizen to take part in and shape our new golden age.”

The proclamation noted a dramatic rise in autism diagnoses, citing that 1 in 36 children in the United States are now identified as being on the autism spectrum — a stark increase from just 1 to 4 per 10,000 children in the 1980s.

In response, Trump pointed to the work of the Make America Healthy Again Commission, a White House-led initiative formed earlier this year to investigate root causes of chronic and developmental health disorders. The commission places a particular emphasis on childhood disorders like autism, with a promise to prioritize “gold-standard research” and transparency.

“My Administration is prioritizing gold-standard research and increasing transparency to gain new insights to aid those with ASD,” Trump said. “Under my leadership, our great Nation will be stronger than ever before, with opportunities for all Americans to thrive and prosper.”

Trump emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and intervention for children with autism, praising the role of parents and healthcare providers in identifying symptoms and implementing support strategies.

“Early detection is crucial to improving the quality of life of those with ASD,” the proclamation reads. “Loving parents want the best for their children in educational environments — and so do we.”

In his closing remarks, Trump called on all Americans to learn more about autism, support early diagnosis, and extend empathy to those living with the disorder.

“Together, on World Autism Awareness Day, we declare our unending support and wholehearted respect for Americans living with autism,” he said. “My Administration will empower them to reach their full potential and realize their American Dream.”

This year’s World Autism Awareness Day comes as the Trump administration continues to roll out a slate of health and education initiatives aimed at increasing access to early intervention, bolstering special education resources, and reviewing environmental and dietary factors that may impact developmental health.
