President Donald Trump issued a memorandum Friday directing the Attorney General and the Secretary of Homeland Security to enforce stricter measures against attorneys and law firms that engage in unethical conduct, particularly when such actions threaten national security, public safety, or election integrity.
The memorandum instructs the Attorney General to seek sanctions against legal professionals involved in frivolous, unreasonable, or vexatious litigation against the United States.

It emphasizes the importance of enforcing existing regulations governing attorney conduct and discipline, and mandates referrals for disciplinary action when violations occur.
Highlighting past instances of alleged misconduct, the memorandum references Marc Elias, founder of Elias Law Group LLP, for his involvement in the creation of a dossier during the 2016 presidential election.
It also points to unethical practices within the immigration system, where some attorneys are accused of coaching clients to provide false information to circumvent immigration policies.

The directive further requires a review of attorney conduct over the past eight years, with recommendations for additional actions, such as reassessing security clearances or terminating federal contracts, if misconduct is identified.
This memorandum is part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to address perceived abuses within the legal system and ensure accountability among legal practitioners.
