President-elect Donald Trump announced late Sunday that Tom Homan, the former acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) known for his hard-line stance on immigration, will join his new administration as the “border czar.”
“I am pleased to announce that the Former ICE Director, and stalwart on Border Control, Tom Homan, will be joining the Trump Administration, in charge of our Nation’s Borders (‘The Border Czar’), including, but not limited to, the Southern Border, the Northern Border, all Maritime, and Aviation Security,” Trump said on Truth Social.

“I’ve known Tom for a long time, and there is nobody better at policing and controlling our Borders,” the post continued. “Likewise, Tom Homan will be in charge of all Deportation of Illegal Aliens back to their Country of Origin. Congratulations to Tom. I have no doubt he will do a fantastic, and long awaited for, job.”
Homan is a former U.S. government official known for his extensive career in immigration enforcement. He began his law enforcement journey as a police officer in West Carthage, New York, before joining the U.S. Border Patrol in 1984.
Over the years, Homan advanced through various roles within immigration agencies, culminating in his appointment as the Acting Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) by President Donald Trump on January 30, 2017. He served in this capacity until his retirement on June 30, 2018.
During his tenure at ICE, Homan was a staunch advocate for strict immigration policies, including the controversial “zero tolerance” policy that led to family separations at the U.S.-Mexico border. After retiring from federal service, he continued to influence immigration discourse as a Fox News contributor and through his involvement with organizations like the Heritage Foundation and Border911, where he serves as CEO and President.
Homan’s career reflects a consistent commitment to stringent immigration enforcement and border security measures, positioning him as a prominent figure in shaping U.S. immigration policy.
