Former President Donald Trump is gaining traction with Hispanic male voters, outperforming Vice President Kamala Harris in a recent AP/NORC poll released on Friday. The poll showed that 42% of Hispanic men believe Trump would make a good president, compared to 36% who feel the same about Harris.

While Harris maintains her support among Hispanic women, with 50% backing her compared to 30% for Trump, the former president’s gains among Hispanic voters highlight a widening gender gap that could challenge the Harris campaign.

Overall, Harris remains favored among Hispanic voters, with 43% saying she would make a good president, while 40% disagree. In contrast, 36% believe Trump would make a good president, but a majority—53%—said he would not.

The poll also indicated that Hispanic voters prioritize the economy, healthcare, crime, and immigration as key issues for the upcoming election.

According to a separate September NBC/Telemundo/CNBC poll, Trump holds an edge over Harris in handling both immigration and the economy.

Although Harris is leading among Hispanic voters, she is underperforming compared to past Democratic candidates. In 2020, President Joe Biden secured 65% of the Hispanic vote, while Trump garnered 32%. In 2016, Hillary Clinton won 66% of the Hispanic vote, with Trump receiving 28%.

Trump’s increasing support among Hispanic voters could pose a challenge for Harris in key swing states like Arizona and Nevada, where Latinos make up around one-third of the population. While Democrats have won Nevada in the last four election cycles, Arizona has largely leaned Republican, except in 1996 and 2020.

The RealClearPolling averages show Trump slightly ahead in both states, with a 0.2-point lead in Nevada and a 0.5-point advantage in Arizona. The AP/NORC poll surveyed 2,028 Hispanic voters nationwide from September 12 to 16, with a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points.
