The U.S. President expressed his dissatisfaction with Russia’s recent deadly attacks on Kyiv, the most intense wave of strikes on the Ukrainian capital in nine months.

Addressing President Vladimir Putin directly, the President wrote, “I am not happy with the Russian strikes on KYIV. Not necessary, and very bad timing. Vladimir, STOP! 5000 soldiers a week are dying. Lets get the Peace Deal DONE!”

Moscow launched 70 missiles and 145 drones towards Ukraine, with Kyiv being the primary target, according to Ukraine’s Air Force. Tragically, these attacks have resulted in the deaths of at least eight individuals.

Emergency services reported that 13 locations in Kyiv were hit, including residential buildings and civilian infrastructure. Initial reports indicated that nine people had died and over 60 were wounded, making this the deadliest assault on the city since July 2024, when 33 people were killed in a similar barrage.

Authorities have warned that more individuals may be trapped under the rubble, and a search and rescue operation is currently underway.

Russia’s defense ministry stated that its forces conducted “a massive strike with high-precision long-range air, land and sea-based weapons, unmanned aerial vehicles on enterprises of the aviation, missile and space, mechanical engineering and armored industries of Ukraine, production of rocket fuel and gunpowder.” The ministry claimed that “the strike objectives were achieved. All targets were hit.”

Following the attacks, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy announced that he would cut short his visit to South Africa to return to Ukraine.

“It is extremely important that everyone around the world sees and understands what is really happening,” he stated, adding that Ukraine would immediately reach out to its international partners to request усиление air defenses.

Zelenskyy also noted that “It has been 44 days since Ukraine agreed to a full ceasefire and a halt to strikes. This was a proposal from the United States. And it has been 44 days of Russia continuing to kill our people and evading tough pressure and accountability for its actions.”
