Florida Governor Ron DeSantis vowed Sunday to launch a state investigation into the attempted assassination attempt of former President Trump.
“The State of Florida will be conducting its own investigation regarding the attempted assassination at Trump International Golf Club,” DeSantis said. “The people deserve the truth about the would be assassin and how he was able to get within 500 yards of the former president and current GOP nominee.”
Former President Donald Trump was swiftly escorted to safety by the Secret Service after agents opened fire on a man suspected of carrying a firearm near Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach, according to law enforcement sources.

Sources indicate that Secret Service agents spotted a suspicious individual on the golf course and fired shots after observing what appeared to be the barrel of a gun.
The situation unfolded while Trump was on the golf course, but he was unharmed and quickly moved to a secure location by his security detail.

The Trump campaign confirmed on Sunday that former President Donald Trump is safe after gunshots were reported in his vicinity in Florida.
“President Trump is safe following gunshots in his vicinity. No further details at this time,” Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said in a statement that did not provide additional details.
According to a post on X by Donald Trump Jr., “An AK-47 was discovered in the bushes, “per local law enforcement.” The Trump campaign has released a statement confirming former President Trump is safe. A suspect has reportedly been apprehended.”
The New York Post, originally reported that two people exchanged gunfire outside of Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach. The shooters were targeting each other, and the gunfire was not targeting Trump; however, it is now believed that a secret service agent had opened fire on the suspect.
The incident occurred while Trump was playing golf at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach. According to a source familiar with the situation, the course was immediately locked down following the reports.
