The 2024 presidential election season is well underway, and the debate landscape has become a focal point of intense scrutiny and strategic maneuvering.
At the heart of this dynamic is the ongoing tussle between President Joe Biden’s and former President Donald Trump’s camps, each vying to shape the terms and reach of the upcoming debates.
The recent developments surrounding a proposed Telemundo-hosted debate have thrust this issue into the spotlight, sparking a flurry of activity and rhetoric from both sides.

As the battle for the Hispanic vote takes center stage, the decisions made regarding these high-profile events could have far-reaching implications for the electoral landscape.
On Friday, the Trump campaign announced that it had accepted an invitation from NBC News and Telemundo to host a presidential debate.
This proposal, if realized, would have provided a platform for the candidates to engage directly with a sizable Hispanic audience, a demographic that has become increasingly crucial in recent elections.
However, the Biden campaign swiftly rejected the Telemundo debate proposal, citing a desire to move past the “debate about debates” and focus on the agreed-upon schedule, according to NBC News.
Some saw the Biden team’s decision as a strategic move to avoid potential pitfalls and maintain control over the debate narrative.
In response, the Trump campaign launched a scathing attack on the Biden team, accusing them of being “petrified” to allow the president to “defend his disastrous record” on the debate stage. The Trump camp also labeled Biden as “too ‘cobarde’ (cowardly) to address the Hispanic community,” further escalating the rhetorical war.

“It is shameful that Crooked Joe Biden has turned his back on Hispanics and REFUSED a debate for the Hispanic community! Biden has been TERRIBLE for Hispanics: Bidenomics is crushing our communities, rising prices are decimating our families, and Biden’s open border prioritizes illegal immigrants over American Citizens!” said Danielle Alvarez, Trump Campaign spokesperson.
“The Telemundo/NBC debate would be widely watched by Hispanic voters, but Biden’s handlers are petrified to allow him to defend his disastrous record. Crooked Joe Biden is too “cobarde” to address the Hispanic community and answer for his failures on the debate stage!
“It is no surprise Crooked Joe Biden is losing Hispanics in poll after poll to President Donald J. Trump, who will rebuild our economy, lower prices, lower taxes, secure our border, and uplift families.

In a departure from the norm, the Trump and Biden campaigns have agreed to two presidential debates outside of the CPD framework. These include a CNN-hosted debate in Atlanta on June 27 and an ABC News debate on September 10, with the location yet to be determined.
