President Donald Trump has once again stirred controversy with a bold proclamation on his social media platform, calling for Canada to become the 51st state of the United States following the signing of tariffs on Saturday.
In a lengthy post, President Trump criticized U.S. trade policies, accusing Canada and other countries of taking advantage of American subsidies and trade deficits while calling for an end to what he described as decades of economic exploitation.

“We pay hundreds of billions of dollars to subsidize Canada. Why? There is no reason,” Trump wrote. “We don’t need anything they have. We have unlimited energy, should make our own cars, and have more lumber than we can ever use. Without this massive subsidy, Canada ceases to exist as a viable country. Harsh but true! Therefore, Canada should become our cherished 51st state. Much lower taxes, and far better military protection for the people of Canada — AND NO TARIFFS!”
Trump’s post also took aim at what he called the “Tariff Lobby,” which he accused of promoting globalist interests and justifying trade practices that he claims have harmed the U.S. economy. He singled out Canada, Mexico, and China as primary culprits in what he described as a “decades-long ripoff of America,” citing trade imbalances, crime, and the flow of illegal drugs into the United States.
“The USA has major deficits with Canada, Mexico, and China (and almost all countries!), owes $36 trillion, and we’re not going to be the ‘stupid country’ any longer,” Trump declared. “MAKE YOUR PRODUCT IN THE USA AND THERE ARE NO TARIFFS! Why should the United States lose trillions of dollars subsidizing other countries, and why should these other countries pay a small fraction of the cost of what U.S. citizens pay for drugs and pharmaceuticals, as an example?”

Trump’s comments reflect his long-standing “America First” trade philosophy, which he championed during his presidency. He has consistently argued that tariffs and trade barriers are necessary to protect American industries and workers, even if they result in short-term economic pain. In his post, he acknowledged potential challenges but remained optimistic about the future.
“THIS WILL BE THE GOLDEN AGE OF AMERICA! WILL THERE BE SOME PAIN? YES, MAYBE (AND MAYBE NOT!). BUT WE WILL MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, AND IT WILL ALL BE WORTH THE PRICE THAT MUST BE PAID,” Trump wrote. “WE ARE A COUNTRY THAT IS NOW BEING RUN WITH COMMON SENSE — AND THE RESULTS WILL BE SPECTACULAR!!!”
Trump’s unapologetic rhetoric continues to spark debate and draw attention to his America-first agenda.
