Former President Donald Trump has called for armed security at all schools across the country, saying we can better protect children for a small fraction of President Joe Biden’s spending on Ukraine.

Trump told the gathering of the National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action’s Leadership Forum that villains must know armed protectors will confront them if they seek to enter a school.

“The first responsibility of the government is to protect its people,” Trump told the crowd.

“For about $12 billion, we can provide armed security guards at every school in America,” Trump added. “If we can send $120 billion to Ukraine, we can afford one-tenth of that to protect our children.”

The Times reported that Trump, if again elected president, promised to repeal laws that make schools vulnerable targets and implement policies to boost security. One idea he offered was a tax credit for teachers who agree to be trained and arm themselves while on the job.

“It is a scandal and a tragedy that year after year, Democrats in Washington continue to hold commonsense school safety measures hostage to their radical gun control agenda, which, in virtually all cases, would do nothing to prevent attacks by demented and disturbed individuals,” Trump said, according to a separate report by NBC News.

“This is not a gun problem. This is a mental health problem, this is a social problem, this is a cultural problem, this is a spiritual problem.”

Trump’s comments came less than three weeks after a biological woman who identified as a man shot up a Christian school in Nashville, killing six people, including three children.

His speech also was delivered a day after a transgender teacher in Hernando County was removed from a middle school after talking to another faculty member about wanting to “shoot” students because they weren’t putting in sufficient effort.

In his remarks to the NRA, Trump, who declared himself “the most pro-gun, pro-Second Amendment president you’ve ever had in the White House,” said he would direct the Food and Drug Administration to study the effects of transgender hormone therapy to determine potential links to “extreme depression, aggression, and even violence.”
