President-elect Donald Trump named Stephen Miller as White House deputy chief of staff for policy, according to sources familiar with the decision-making process. Miller, who played a significant role in Trump’s first-term immigration policies, is poised to shape policy direction in the new administration.
Known for his hard-line stance on immigration, Miller, 39, was a key architect of Trump’s strict immigration measures, including policies aimed at reducing illegal immigration and expanding deportations. Trump has promised to continue these efforts, including mass deportations, during his upcoming term.

Vice President-elect JD Vance posted a message of congratulations on Monday to Miller on X, “This is another fantastic pick by the president. Congrats @StephenM!”
Following Trump’s first term, Miller remained a close ally and actively campaigned for him during the 2024 election. The anticipated appointment was initially reported by CNN.
The announcement comes shortly after Trump revealed that former ICE Director Tom Homan would join the administration as “border czar,” overseeing U.S. border security and immigration enforcement.
