Former President Donald Trump predicts that Florida voters will likely support a November ballot proposal to enshrine abortion rights in the state Constitution, though he has yet to disclose how he will personally vote.

Speaking at a news conference at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, indicated that he plans to announce his stance on Amendment 4 at a later date.

“Florida does have a vote coming up on that, and I think probably the vote will go in a little more liberal way than people thought,” Trump said. The proposed amendment, which would require 60% voter approval to pass, comes after the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2022 decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, eliminating federal protections for abortion access.

A recent poll by the University of North Florida’s Public Opinion Research Lab found that 69% of likely voters support the amendment.

The ballot initiative, driven by the Floridians Protecting Freedom political committee, was launched in response to a law passed by Florida’s Republican-controlled Legislature and signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis, which bans abortions after six weeks of pregnancy.

DeSantis and other state Republican leaders oppose the proposed amendment, while Democratic leaders are in favor.
