The conservative legal aid group founded by one-time advisers to former President Donald Trump seeks white male employees of United Airlines as plaintiffs for an action challenging the carrier’s DEI policies.

In an ad posted on its X account, America First Legal asked, “Are you a white man who was denied an interview or promotion for a management or administrative position? We want to hear from you.”

America First Legal, whose founders include former Trump immigration adviser Stephen Miller, apparently is still casting for plaintiffs to a legal action it filed last November.

In that case, AFL filed federal civil rights complaints with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission against United, as well as American and Southwest airlines, for racial and sex discrimination.

As far as United was concerned, the AFL attacked its blatant corporate goal of bypassing white men for top jobs.

For instance, United stated its goal was to “increase demographically diverse representation.”

To that end, the company sought to have a “diverse makeup of candidates” in 90% of its interviews for new hires. United also worked to update 50% of its job postings to “eliminate biased verbiage.”

The company further pledged to have women or minorities make up at least half of the enrolled students in its flight school.

“We exceeded all three of our goals in these areas,” United proudly proclaimed, according to ALF.

The company noted that its U.S. workforce added 3% more women and 6% more minorities between December 2020 and December 2022.

In 2022, United increased the ratio of women in management and administrative roles by 5% and minorities by 9%.

Moreover, almost half of all promotions in the Senior Professional and Senior Leader levels went to women or minorities.

In a letter to the EEOC requesting a review of United’s policies, ALF cited the aforementioned outcomes and noted, “United openly acknowledges — even touts—its unlawful employment practices.”

“United Airlines’ unlawful employment practices are also deeply harmful,” the letter continued. “Discrimination based on immutable characteristics such as race, color, national origin, or sex ‘generates a feeling of inferiority as to their status in the community that may affect their hearts and minds in a way unlikely to ever be undone.’”

In a statement, Gene Hamilton, AFL’s general counsel and vice president, who served as counselor to the attorney general during Trump’s time in office, stated, “When you board a plane, the last thing you care about is the skin color of the pilot and crew onboard. The only thing that matters is getting from point A to point B safely – yet these airlines apparently think that one of the most critical things they can do is discriminate against employees and potential employees based on race. It’s absurd.”

“Major corporations think that it’s okay to have ‘goals’ for the demographic makeup of their workforces, with no self-awareness of the illegal practices that they will undoubtedly take to achieve those goals. They are wrong, and they must stop,“ Hamilton added.
