The Trump administration has rolled out a new mobile application, CBP Home, designed to facilitate self-deportation for illegal migrants after terminating key functionalities of the previous CBP One app that allowed undocumented migrants to schedule border entry appointments.

“CBP Home App strengthens our mission to secure the U.S. border by ensuring lawful entry for travelers and supporting effective enforcement,” said Pete Flores, Acting Commissioner, U.S Customs and Border Protection. “The app provides illegal aliens in the United States with a straightforward way to declare their intent to voluntarily depart, offering them the chance to leave before facing harsher consequences. This reinforces our commitment to enforcing U.S. laws and safeguarding national security.”

The CBP Home app, launched by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on Monday, offers a range of services aimed at streamlining border processes and encouraging voluntary departures.

Available for free on the Apple App Store and Google Play, the app is accessible to anyone with a mobile device. Its key features include:

  • Intent to Depart: Undocumented immigrants can now formally notify the U.S. government of their intent to leave the country, a feature the administration touts as a cornerstone of its self-deportation initiative.
  • Check Border Wait Times: Users can access real-time updates on wait times and lane statuses at land ports of entry 24/7.
  • Apply for a Provisional I-94 Entry: Travelers can pre-apply for an I-94 form to expedite entry processing at land borders and monitor their legal stay in the U.S.
  • Request Inspections: The app allows travelers to request inspections of agricultural or biological products, such as food items, live animals, or hunting trophies, upon arrival.
  • Submit Travelers Manifest for Bus Operators: Bus operators can submit advance passenger manifests to comply with federal requirements.

CBP officials describe CBP Home as a versatile tool designed to enhance border security while offering practical services to travelers and operators. However, the app’s “Intent to Depart” feature has drawn particular attention as part of the administration’s broader immigration enforcement strategy.

The Trump administration shut down the CBP One app’s functionalities that allowed undocumented migrants to submit advance information and schedule appointments at eight southwest border ports of entry. According to the CBP website, “Effective January 20, 2025, these features are no longer available, and existing appointments have been canceled.”

The decision had immediate consequences, with approximately 270,000 illegal migrants left standing on the Mexican side of the border. Introduced under the Biden administration in January 2023, CBP One was designed as a legal pathway for migrants—particularly from countries like Haiti and Venezuela—to seek asylum by requesting appointments at designated entry points.

Since its inception, nearly 919,000 migrants entered the U.S. through the system, according to an internal government report.

President Trump and Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem have repeatedly criticized CBP One as an “open invitation” for illegal immigration.

“Effective immediately, the abuse of our asylum system stops,” Trump declared in his January 20, 2025, address. “We are restoring order at the border and putting American sovereignty first.”

The termination of CBP One and the launch of CBP Home signal the beginning of a sweeping immigration overhaul under the Trump administration.

The White House website, revamped post-inauguration to reflect Trump’s agenda, emphasizes border security as a top priority. In his inaugural address, Trump promised a “Golden Age of America,” pledging to restore national greatness through decisive action on immigration and other key issues.
