Tropical Storm Sara is steadily moving westward towards Belize, with its center now positioned in the Gulf of Honduras. Satellite imagery clearly shows the storm’s progress as it moves away from the Bay Islands.

An Air Force Reserve reconnaissance mission recently flew through the storm and found little change in intensity. Sara’s sustained winds remain near 40 knots (approximately 46 mph).

However, there are signs that the storm may be struggling to maintain its strength. Interaction with the mountainous terrain of Honduras appears to be disrupting Sara’s circulation and limiting the development of deep convection near its center.

Despite this, Sara continues to bring heavy rainfall to the region, with significant flooding reported in Honduras. The storm is now moving westward at a slightly faster pace of 4 knots (about 4.6 mph). Landfall in Belize is expected tomorrow morning.

Forecasters do not anticipate significant intensification before Sara reaches Belize. After moving inland, the storm is expected to weaken as it crosses the Yucatan Peninsula. However, the remnants of Sara may still bring increased rainfall to the northern Gulf Coast by the middle of the week.
