Tropical Storm Franklin made landfall on the island of Hispaniola, which is shared by the Dominican Republic and Haiti.

The storm brought concerns of landslides and heavy flooding in both countries.

Forecasters predicted that Franklin would bring significant rainfall, potentially up to 10 inches (25 centimeters), with even higher amounts, up to 15 inches (38 centimeters), for the central region of Hispaniola.

The storm’s center was located about 105 miles (170 kilometers) west-southwest of Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, with maximum winds of 50 mph (85 kph) and higher gusts.

Franklin made landfall along the southern coast of the Dominican Republic near Bahahona.

The storm was expected to linger over the island for most of the day.
