TREASURE ISLAND, Fla. – Residents of Treasure Island will see a significant increase in debris removal efforts following Hurricanes Helene and Milton. The city has successfully secured additional resources, quadrupling its debris collection capacity.
This accelerated cleanup effort is thanks to collaboration between the city’s Public Works, Executive, and Emergency Management teams, along with Pinellas County, the Governor’s office, state agencies, and FEMA. Multiple debris management contractors will now be working from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily to expedite the process.

“We are working diligently to meet FEMA’s 90-day deadline for 100% reimbursement to ensure our taxpayers receive the most cost-effective service,” said a city official. “However, due to the extensive debris from both storms, this process may take longer than anticipated.”
Residents are reminded to follow FEMA guidelines for debris collection:
- Separate debris properly: Appliances, regular trash/recycling, household chemicals, electronics, and debris from commercial properties (including condominiums) are not eligible for collection.
- Ensure accessibility: Debris must be placed curbside as contractors cannot enter private property.
- Keep pathways clear: Ensure vehicles are off the road when debris trucks are in your neighborhood.
Eligible items for collection include household items, furniture, and construction and demolition debris.
By working together and following these guidelines, residents can help ensure a safe and efficient debris cleanup process for the entire island.
