LAKELAND, Fla. – A fatal accident occurred in north Lakeland this afternoon when a pickup truck collided with a cargo train. The driver of the pickup truck was tragically killed in the crash.
The incident took place around 3:25 p.m. on the railroad tracks running parallel to Kathleen Road, between Deeson and Spivey Roads. The cargo train was not carrying any cargo at the time of the accident. Authorities do not believe there were any other occupants in the pickup truck.

Traffic Alert: Drivers are strongly urged to avoid the area until further notice. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit is on scene investigating the accident. Further details and photos will be released later this evening.
