In an in-depth interview, incoming “Border Czar” Tom Homan, the former director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), will speak candidly with Dr. Phil McGraw in a two-part special edition of “Dr. Phil Primetime” airing Monday, December 9, and Tuesday, December 10 at 8:00 p.m. ET on Dr. Phil’s Merit TV™ network.
The exclusive conversation began at the Merit TV studios in Fort Worth, Texas, before Homan and McGraw traveled together to the Oletski Border Center in Sierra Vista, Arizona. There, they examined unfinished sections of the border wall and met with local sheriffs who described the realities of illegal crossings, drug trafficking, and other criminal activity that threaten communities on both sides of the line.
Homan—recently appointed to oversee all U.S. borders, including air and sea ports of entry—shared his top priorities for day one on the job.
He offered an unfiltered view of how he plans to enforce mass deportations, dismantle drug cartels, and counter human trafficking rings. Throughout the visit, he detailed the challenges that law enforcement officials face and outlined potential solutions to curb illegal immigration and bolster national security.

During the interview, Dr. Phil pressed Homan on the human cost of border failures. In an especially emotional moment, Homan recalled a tragic crime scene involving migrants locked inside a sealed trailer, left to die in excruciating heat.
He described the sight of a 5-year-old boy wearing Batman underwear—just like his own young son—among the deceased. Visibly shaken, Homan conveyed the profound impact of witnessing such suffering and underscored the moral imperative to prevent these horrors from recurring.
“You said this got to the point where it broke you. What do you mean?” McGraw asked.

An emotional Homan replied, “I stood in back of a trailer with 19 dead people dead at my feet… 19 people dead at my feet who baked to death… Steel box. Black. No lights. No air. No water. And when I went to that crime scene, and I keyed on a 5-year-old little boy wearing Batman underwear…. Same underwear my son had. My 5-year-old son. And you think about the tragedy… what that little boy went through… how he suffered. No one should suffer like that. And it broke me because I know it can be fixed. I know it can be prevented.”
This gripping two-part special offers viewers a front-row seat to the urgent and often heartbreaking challenges at the U.S. border—and to the leader tasked with addressing them. Viewers can tune in to “Dr. Phil Primetime” on December 9 and 10 at 8:00 p.m. ET for a candid exploration of what it will take to restore security, uphold the law, and protect the vulnerable.
