An investigation revealed that Colon, a former member of the Latin Kings gang, was killed during a violent “beating” and “stripping of his membership” ritual after attempting to leave the gang.

“Unfortunately for those seeking justice for the victim, complex investigations like the one involving the murder of Michael Colon take time to ensure they are done correctly so those responsible are held accountable for their actions.  We can assure the community that everyone at the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office wants swift justice, but not at the expense of successful prosecution,” Sheriff Nienhuis said.
