Three teens in Florida have been arrested after a burglary turned extremely violent and ended with the suspects battering deputies.
On October 10th, 2022, deputies responded to a home in area of Alabama Road and Palm Boulevard in Lehigh Acres in reference to a burglary in progress.
When deputies arrived, they learned the victim of an initial crime was shot at and chased into a family’s home by one of the suspects involved. Two of the other family members were subsequently battered by the suspect while chasing after the initial victim.
During the investigation, deputies were able to identify three of the possible suspects involved as Brendin Smith, 16, Connor Smith, 17, and Janessa Fernandez, 16.
Detectives made contact with the Smith brothers and Fernandez at their home. After all three suspects unsuccessfully attempted to engage in a physical altercation with deputies at the residence they were detained, and positively identified by the victims.
Detectives with the LCSO East District Criminal Investigations Division authored a search warrant for the residence in an attempt to locate the firearm used in the crime.
While executing the search warrant detectives located a 12 gauge shotgun, a loaded AK-47, five semi-automatic handguns, 53.4grams of Meth, 78.7grams of Cocaine, $27,550 dollars in cash, and several other items including drug paraphernalia consistent with sale of illicit narcotics.
“I will not tolerate violent or criminal behavior of any kind,” stated Sheriff Carmine Marceno. “Even during these trying times, my LCSO family members continually demonstrate their commitment to excellence and keeping the great residents of Lee County safe.”
Connor Smith was arrested and charged with two counts of Burglary with Battery and Battery.
Brendin Smith was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony.
Janessa Fernandez was arrested and charged with Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer and Tampering with or Harassing a Witness, Victim, or Informant.
Deputies say a mugshot for Janessa was not available because she was disorderly during the booking process.
