Thousands Of Claims Filed In Florida After Hurricane Nicole

More than 7,200 insurance claims had been filed as of Monday from Hurricane Nicole, which hit the East Coast last week and traveled up the state, according to data posted on the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation website.

The data said 7,212 claims had been filed, with estimated insured losses of $72.4 million.

Most of the claims, 5,583, involved residential property, with other claims involving such things as commercial property and auto damage.

Nicole made landfall early Thursday near Vero Beach as a Category 1 hurricane before weakening to a tropical storm.

As of Monday, Brevard County had the most reported claims, with 1,047. It was followed by Orange County, with 815; Volusia County, with 774; Duval County, with 434; Pinellas County, with 345; and Hillsborough County, with 307.
