A third-grade student is facing a criminal charge after allegedly making bomb threats against two schools in Lorain, Ohio. The threats prompted a temporary closure of the Clearview Local School District.

According to the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office, the young student used a fake Facebook account to claim bombs had been planted at Clearview High School and Durling Middle School.

While authorities did not specify when the threats were made, the schools and the entire district were closed on Thursday, Dec. 12, as the sheriff’s office and FBI conducted a thorough search for explosives.

No bombs were discovered, and the incident was deemed a false alarm. Classes resumed as normal on Friday, Dec. 13.

Police said the third grader, whose name and age have not been disclosed due to her young age, admitted to making the threats, including a similar one in September. She has been charged with inducing panic in connection with the false social media posts. Her parents have not been charged in the case.

Dr. Jerome Davis, superintendent of Clearview Local School District, confirmed the student’s referral to the juvenile assessment center but did not provide further comment.

Clearview High School Principal Noeleen Rothacker and the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office also declined to comment when contacted by media outlets.

Authorities are using the incident to stress the importance of parental involvement in monitoring children’s online activities, especially on social media platforms.
