The disappearance of Ana María Henao Knezevich, a Colombian-American woman residing in Madrid, has captivated the attention of international law enforcement and the global community.
Her estranged husband, David Knezevich, a South Florida businessman, has been accused of kidnapping her in a case that has unfolded with shocking twists and turns.

The Couple’s Troubled Marriage
David and Ana María Knezevich, who sometimes spelled their surname as “Knezevic,” had been married for 13 years, owning a successful computer support business, EOX Technology Solutions Inc., in South Florida.
However, their relationship had reportedly become increasingly strained, with Ana María’s brother, Juan Henao, describing the couple’s pending divorce as “nasty.”
According to court documents, Ana María had expressed concerns about her safety and mental health, claiming that she felt her life was threatened by her husband.
On February 2nd, 2023, Ana María Henao Knezevich was last seen in her apartment in Madrid, Spain, where she had been residing after separating from her husband.

Troubling surveillance footage from her building revealed that an individual wearing a motorcycle helmet and face covering was captured spray painting the security camera lens, before leaving the scene carrying a suitcase. This incident occurred just an hour after Ana María was last seen alive.
Weeks after Ana María’s disappearance, David Knezevich was arrested upon his arrival at Miami International Airport, coming from his native Serbia.
He was charged with kidnapping in connection with his wife’s disappearance. Prosecutors presented a detailed case, alleging that Knezevich had rented a car in Belgrade, Serbia, just days before his wife’s disappearance and that he was the individual caught on camera at Ana María’s apartment in Madrid.
During a pre-trial detention hearing in Miami, the FBI agent on the case revealed that Ana María had sent messages to her friends expressing concerns about her safety and her deteriorating mental health.
The agent also stated that the government was worried that Ana María may have been killed. The defense, however, attempted to cast doubt on the government’s case, speculating that Ana María may have been with someone she was dating.
The government’s case against David Knezevich was largely circumstantial, but the judge presiding over the hearing acknowledged that the evidence was significant.
The prosecution highlighted the WhatsApp messages they believed were crafted by Knezevich and sent to Ana María’s friends, as well as the testimony of a Madrid hardware store clerk who positively identified Knezevich as the man who purchased spray paint and duct tape around the time of Ana María’s disappearance.

While the FBI’s initial criminal complaint did not include details about the forensic evidence found at the scene, it was later revealed that blood had been discovered inside Ana María’s Madrid apartment. However, the DNA results were still pending, and the defense attempted to use this information to cast doubt on the government’s case.
The federal judge ultimately denied David Knezevich’s request for bond, deeming him a potential flight risk. Knezevich’s attorneys had the option to appeal the judge’s decision, but it remained unclear whether they would pursue that avenue.
In the aftermath of the pre-trial detention hearing, Ana María’s brother, Felipe Henao, made a heartfelt plea to the public, urging anyone with information about his sister’s whereabouts to come forward. He expressed the family’s unwavering hope that Ana María would be found alive, emphasizing their deep love and support for her.
