Investigators allege that Deras left her son in the car while taking another child into a health facility. During questioning, Deras reportedly gave inconsistent statements, initially claiming the baby was with his grandmother.
The arrest comes nearly a year after the incident, as authorities conducted a thorough investigation in collaboration with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors emphasized the importance of taking the time to gather all the necessary facts and evidence before filing charges in such a serious case.
