Charges have been filed against a 22-year-old suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man found on May 29, 2023.
The suspect, 22-year-old James Spencer III, posed as a minor child and set up a meeting with the adult victim for sex but intended to issue justice of his own.
According to police, Spencer fatally shot 37-year-old Sean Showers from inside a vehicle while Showers was walking down a road.

According to authorities, Spencer believed that law enforcement officials were not doing enough to keep child predators in prison, so he decided to take matters into his own hands.
Officers arrested Spencer on Wednesday, Jan. 31, nearly nine months after the fatal shooting. He was booked into Harris County Jail on a murder charge and is being held on a $250,000 bond. Spencer could face life in prison if convicted.
According to the FBI’s Houston Division, Showers pleaded guilty in 2009 to possessing child pornography before the shooting. The victim reportedly spent time in federal prison and failed to register as a sex offender.

In a statement obtained by KPRC in Houston, Victim Services Director of Houston Crime Stoppers Andy Kahan stated, “This was diabolically cunning. When I look at this, I’m going, ‘This is the stuff you see in movies.'”
On Wednesday, January 31, Spencer was arrested without incident by officers with the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force.
Spencer admitted to his role in the incident and was booked into the Harris County Jail.
