racists against Tim Scott

Texas Dems Reject Party Official’s Resignation Offer Over Racial Slur Of Sen. Tim Scott

One thing is for sure in our highly charged political climate: Amid the supposed “reckoning” over racial injustice, Democrats will rarely pay the price.

A case in Texas is illustrative.

U.S. Sen. Tim Scott, a black Republican, gave the rebuttal to President Joe Biden’s recent address to Congress.

Scott ignited a firestorm by saying America is not a racist country – which ironically was something both Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris conceded in recent comments.

But in his speech, Scott noted, “I get called ‘Uncle Tom’ and the N-word — by ‘progressives’! By liberals!” He added that “Believe me, I know our healing is not finished.”

Liberals immediately took to Twitter and the phrase “Uncle Tim,” a reference to the obsequious slave Uncle Tom in the 1852 novel “Uncle Tom’s Cabin,” trended for hours before the platform finally blocked it.

In Texas, Gary O’Connor, who is white and the chairman of the Lamar County Democratic Party, referred to Scott as an “oreo,” a slur that demeans black people for acting like whites.

“I had hoped that Scott might show some common sense, but it seems clear he is little more than an oreo with no real principles,” O’Connor wrote on his personal Facebook page.

On Tuesday morning, nearly a week after Scott’s comments, O’Connor offered to resign his post. That came after he reportedly sent Scott a letter apologizing for the comment.

“I am deeply and sincerely sorry for my inappropriate and hurtful use of the racist term I used to describe Sen. Tim Scott on my personal Facebook page. It was insensitive, and I have embarrassed myself and my party by its use,” O’Connor told the Washington Examiner on Tuesday morning.

“As a result, I feel compelled to offer my resignation as chair of the Lamar County Democratic Party for consideration by the County Executive Committee,” he added.

Many news outlets picked up on the resignation offer, and it seemed we might have leveled the playing field a bit.

Alas, it was not to be, O’Connor in fact made his fellow Democrats an offer they could refuse – and did.

By Tuesday night, the Texas Tribune and the Epoch Times were reporting that the Lamar County Democratic Party had rejected O’Connor’s offer to step down.

Party officials told the Epoch Times, “Our local Democrats have taken the last few days to reflect upon this incident. After much discussion — especially among our local Black Democrats — we chose not to accept Mr. O’Connor’s resignation. Mr. O’Connor has written a public letter of apology to Sen. Tim Scott, and Lamar County Democrats join him in this apology.”

“Gary O’Connor has led Lamar County Democrats for seven years and his life of service, collaboration, and activism for racial justice is well known throughout this community. His recent remark is incompatible with his core values,” the county party added in its statement.

“Lamar County Democrats recommit ourselves to conduct our private conversations and our public social media discussions with anti-racist, pro-reconciling attitudes and language. We strongly condemn bigotry of any kind and will continue our historic efforts to work for justice and equality for all our fellow citizens.”

Except for Tim Scott, of course.

So, O’Conner keeps his job, No one on Twitter lost their job for an “Uncle Tim” slur. And MSNBC host Tiffany Cross, who is black, goes merrily on the air after referring to Scott not only as “Uncle Tim” but also a “clown,” a “tap dancer” and a “token.”

Democrats not only accept this vile behavior, they reward it.
