Democratic Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett of Texas launched a fiery critique of former President Donald Trump and his administration during an interview on CNN Monday, accusing Trump of surrounding himself with “white supremacists” and decrying what she called the “coddling of mediocre white boys” in American politics.

Crockett, who serves as the Vice Ranking Member of the House Oversight Committee, also took aim at Trump’s recent appointments and policies, including the hiring of Darren Beattie, a controversial figure.

Crockett’s comments came during a wide-ranging discussion about Trump’s influence on government agencies and his alleged misuse of emergency powers.

The congresswoman delivered a scathing rebuke of what she described as systemic racism and inequality in American institutions.

One of Crockett’s primary targets was Darren Beattie, a former Trump speechwriter who was fired in 2018 after it was revealed he had spoken at a conference attended by white nationalists.

Beattie was recently appointed to a key State Department role as the acting Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, a position responsible for shaping U.S. messaging abroad on issues like counterterrorism and violent extremism.

“We right now have a white supremacist sitting in the White House,” Crockett said. “He is backed up by other white supremacists. If you really want to know who the criminals are in this country, you can Google it. The people that commit 80 percent of the most violent crimes in this country are white supremacists, yet for whatever reason, they sit and serve at the pleasure of the president.”

Crockett dismissed the notion that Trump’s past firing of Beattie absolved him of responsibility, pointing to Beattie’s recent social media posts, including one that stated, “Competent white men must be in charge if you want things to work.”

She added, “I am tired of the white tears. Listen, if you are competent, you are not concerned when I walk into Congress every single day. The only people crying are the mediocre white boys who have been beaten out by people who historically have had to work so much harder.”

Crockett, who serves on the House Oversight Committee, also addressed concerns about Trump’s influence on federal agencies and his alleged misuse of emergency powers. She criticized the lack of accountability for special government employees and warned about the potential for harm when unqualified individuals are given access to sensitive government systems.

“If your whole job is to figure out where we can cut money, then sit down and look at the budget line by line,” Crockett said. “But what we’re seeing is someone who is exceeding their scope of authority and causing harm. This is why we need oversight and accountability.”

Crockett concluded her remarks by urging Americans to stand up against systemic racism and inequality. “We have to fight with the same energy they bring,” she said. “If they want to play ball, then I’m ready to play ball. We are not going to let them tear our democracy down.”
