Sharp-eyed Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Hidalgo International Bridge in Texas recently stopped a major drug smuggling attempt, seizing almost $800,000 worth of cocaine concealed within a vehicle.

On October 10th, CBP officers encountered a grey Chevrolet sedan crossing into the US from Mexico. Using a combination of advanced technology, a canine team, and good old-fashioned detective work, officers discovered 26 packages of cocaine hidden within the car. The packages weighed a total of 59 pounds (26.94 kg).

“Our CBP officers remain vigilant and used all available tools and resources to prevented these harmful narcotics from getting to American streets,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.

Both the drugs and the vehicle were seized, and Homeland Security Investigations special agents are now conducting a criminal investigation.
