U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers assigned to the World Trade Bridge in Laredo, Texas, intercepted a massive shipment of methamphetamine worth over $6.5 million on Friday, August 9th. The narcotics were cleverly concealed within a commercial shipment of flowers.
“CBP prioritizes its border security mission on a daily basis,” said Port Director Albert Flores, Laredo Port of Entry. “CBP officers work diligently using all tools available to combat these narcotic trends.”
The seizure occurred when a CBP officer referred a 2023 Freightliner truck with a refrigerated trailer carrying a commercial shipment of flowers for further inspection.
Aided by a canine team and a non-intrusive inspection system, officers uncovered 712.54 pounds of suspected methamphetamine hidden within the flower cargo. The estimated street value of the seized narcotics is $6,551,910.
The narcotics were confiscated by CBP, and Homeland Security Investigations special agents are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the smuggling attempt.
