A Tennessee woman is recovering in the hospital after a horrific attack by her husband on Monday.
Firefighters in Dickson initially responded to reports of a house fire on North Charlotte Street. Upon arrival, they discovered heavy smoke coming from the residence. However, a more disturbing scene awaited them outside.
Officers found the homeowner, Tessa Mowel, near the back door, suffering from multiple stab wounds and burns.

According to court documents, a knife was still lodged in her body. Tessa’s husband, 28-year-old Zachary Mowel, reportedly approached officers at the scene and confessed, stating, “I did it. It was me.”
Investigators with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) believe Zachary Mowel attacked his wife with a knife during a domestic dispute. He then allegedly doused her with gasoline and set the house on fire.
Tessa was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center for treatment of her injuries. Zachary Mowel was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated arson, aggravated assault (domestic-related), and domestic assault.

The TBI did not disclose the condition of Tessa Mowel or her children. However, local news WKRN reported that Tessa’s twin sister has established a fundraiser to assist the family.
