Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), joined by Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and 42 other Republican lawmakers, issued a letter urging President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris to address concerns related to the administration’s handling of the unaccompanied migrant children program.
The group accused the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) of obstructing investigations into suspicious sponsors, including ignoring subpoenas and withholding critical information from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

They also pointed to an increase in cartel trafficking activity, calling for more stringent background checks for sponsors, better information sharing with law enforcement, and an end to alleged policy failures.
The lawmakers are calling for the Biden-Harris administration to collaborate with Congress to reform policies that have allowed more than 500,000 unaccompanied minors to cross the southern border under current immigration policies.
They argued that HHS has reduced DNA testing at the border, minimized law enforcement cooperation, and failed to protect vulnerable children. Additionally, the letter highlighted concerns over HHS’s defiance of oversight regarding contractors like Southwest Key, which manages shelters for migrant children.

The letter was signed by a broad group of Republicans from both the Senate and the House, including figures like Senators Bill Cassidy, Lindsey Graham, and Ted Cruz, as well as House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan.
Their demand is for transparency and swift action to prevent exploitation of children in the program while maintaining public safety.
