A Tennessee couple is facing serious charges after authorities discovered a 7-year-old autistic child living in deplorable conditions, including being confined to a storage trunk.

Mikki Dee Moody, 36, and Sean David Moody, 39, have been charged with aggravated child abuse and neglect, and child endangerment. The charges stem from a search warrant executed at their Blevins Hollow Road residence last Thursday.

During the search, investigators encountered the couple and the non-verbal child. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) also arrested Sean Moody on a separate warrant for abuse of a vulnerable adult.

According to ABC News, the conditions inside the home were described as unsanitary, with exposed wiring in multiple outlets and animal and human feces found throughout.

Disturbingly, a storage trunk in the living room was found to contain urine-soaked blankets, a pillow, a half-eaten pizza, and clothing stained with what appeared to be blood. Authorities say the couple would lock the child in this trunk.

Both Mikki Moody and Sean Moody were jailed in Carter County on Thursday. Mikki Moody was later released after posting a $75,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing, and the child’s current situation is unknown.
