TAMPA, Fla. – Two 14-year-old boys were arrested Saturday night after stealing a car and leading Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies on a chase across the Howard Frankland Bridge.

The incident began around 10:10 p.m. when deputies spotted a Dodge Charger that had been reported stolen earlier in the day. With the help of the Aviation Section, deputies tracked the stolen vehicle as it traveled south on the Veterans Expressway and then westbound on I-275, crossing the bridge into Pinellas County.

The pursuit ended when the stolen car became stuck in traffic, allowing deputies to apprehend the suspects.

One of the children, 14, was arrested and charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle and burglary of an unoccupied conveyance. The other child, 14, was charged with trespass in an unoccupied structure or conveyance.

“I am proud of our patrol units and Aviation Section for their teamwork in bringing these suspects to justice,” said Sheriff Chronister. “Let this be a clear message: we will not tolerate theft in our community. If you steal, we will track you down and hold you accountable.”
