HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested a teenager following a reported attempted abduction at a Home Depot on Friday afternoon.
According to investigators, 16-year-old Daniel Buron entered the store on Bloomingdale Avenue and attempted to purchase a gift card with a stolen credit card.
After failed attempts, he approached a lone shopper and, while brandishing a saw blade, threatened and instructed her to follow him to the bathroom.

Upon reaching the aisle where the bathrooms are located, the victim noticed store employees behind her and customers near the bathroom.
“Seizing the opportunity provided by the larger group of people in the vicinity, she sprinted to safety and informed several store employees and customers about what had happened. Multiple witnesses then observed Buron flee north out of the Home Depot parking lot,” said HCSO.
Witnesses saw Buron flee the store, but another witness spotted him nearby shortly after. Deputies located and arrested Buron.

“I can’t imagine what would lead such a young individual to commit this crime,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “We are in awe of the victim’s quick and brave thinking. Her courage in a terrifying situation not only saved her life but also helped ensure this dangerous suspect was arrested. I am thankful for the actions of the store employees and customers who assisted in this situation; their willingness to speak up is commendable and exemplifies the strength of our community.”
