HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – A 17-year-old has been arrested for leaving the scene of a crash that left a woman with serious injuries. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office took Ahmad Joseph McKinnon into custody on Tuesday, February 18th, 2025.
Deputies responded to the intersection of CR 579 and Clay Pit Road in Mango around 5:34 p.m. after receiving a report of a crash. Upon arrival, they found a female victim on the ground with facial injuries and a possible broken leg. The victim was transported to Tampa General Hospital for treatment.

Witnesses described the suspect vehicle as a black Honda. Deputies located the vehicle shortly after, conducted a traffic stop, and identified McKinnon as the driver.
McKinnon admitted to being the driver involved in the crash. He was arrested and charged with Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Serious Bodily Injury.
“Thanks to the hard work of our deputies, this suspect was quickly identified and taken into custody,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Anyone who thinks they can flee the scene of a crash and escape responsibility should think again. We will continue to pursue justice for victims and make it clear that reckless actions like this will not be tolerated in Hillsborough County.”
The investigation is ongoing.
