Democrat Charlie Crist’s gubernatorial campaign got a boost this month when the American Federation of Teachers sent $500,000 to his political committee, according to a newly filed finance report.
The Aug. 8 contribution from an American Federation of Teachers PAC made up a large chunk of the $824,000 that the Friends of Charlie Crist committee raised from Aug. 6 through Thursday — the final campaign-finance reporting period before Tuesday’s primary elections.
The Crist committee spent $1.94 million during the period, with much of the money going to ad buys. Meanwhile, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Nikki Fried’s Florida Consumers First political committee raised $616,223 during the period, while spending $755,780, a new finance report shows.
