TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. – A former Royal Palm Beach man with serial offenses has been charged on three counts after a physical altercation with his live-in girlfriend.
On October 16, Tarpon Springs Police arrested Maurice Alexander Lucas, 33, for “Domestic Battery with Strangulation,” “Tampering with a Witness” and “Criminal Mischief.”
Listed with a “history of battery with weapons” in a Tarpon Springs Complaint/Arrest Affidavit, Lucas allegedly became angry during a discussion with his live-in girlfriend about breaking up. According to the report, he threw his girlfriend to the floor and proceeded to choke her.
His chokehold is stated in the arrest affidavit as “disabling her breathing.” He then bruised her arm by stepping on it to prevent her from using her cell phone to call the police.
She allegedly then attempted to use his cell phone to make an emergency contact, but Lucas allegedly broke it as well.

Lucas reportedly told his girlfriend he would kill her if the police arrived, and then he would let the police shoot him.
Lucas’s bail has been set at $5,000.
Lucas was reported in the Palm Beach Post in March 2014 as arrested for “Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon,” “Using or Displaying a Weapon During a Felony” and “Violation of Probation.”
Holding a 12-inch carving knife to the neck of his wheelchair-bound mother, he threatened to kill her and make it look like a suicide, according to the news report. It also states he became angry when his mother confronted him about his behavior.
According to the report, after he assaulted and threatened her, he took several of her Valium-prescribed pills and fell asleep.
There was no bond set in this case.
Lucas has served twice in state prison, including in Lake City for a conviction of “Robbery with a Firearm.”
Another felony offense against Lucas included aggravated battery against a woman he should have known was pregnant.
The arrest affidavit states Lucas may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
