Tampa Woman Charged With DUI After Hitting Highway Work Truck In Clearwater

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Clearwater Police Department officers responded to a crash early Friday morning on the Courtney Campbell Causeway involving a drunken driver and a highway work vehicle.

The crash occurred at 2:43 a.m. in the westbound lanes of the causeway. That’s when Andra Newkirk, 36, of Tampa crashed into the rear of a road work vehicle that had its emergency lights activated and was stopped.

One worker employed as a Department of Transportation subcontractor was taken to Mease Countryside Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Westbound lanes were shut down for some time as the investigation was conducted.

Newkirk was charged with DUI with property damage. She was to be booked into the Pinellas County Jail after being medically cleared at a local hospital.
