HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla – A standard and temporary Tampa Water Department maintenance project is expected to affect some Hillsborough County water customers.
According to the Tampa Water Department, it has initiated a temporary change to its water disinfection process to chlorine until July 3rd. The City’s maintenance event is expected to affect Hillsborough County water customers in the following neighborhoods:
- East Lake
- Fairview
- Herschel Heights
- Pebble Creek
- Seaboard
From today until July 3rd, water distributed to these neighborhoods will be converted from chloramine to chlorine disinfection. The system is scheduled to return to chloramine disinfection by July 4th.

Customers within the affected areas may notice a slight difference in the taste and odor of their drinking water while chlorine is in use.
Users of dialysis machines and owners of aquarium fish are advised to seek professional advice to ensure that the pretreatment steps they currently use to remove chloramines will accommodate the scheduled change in water disinfection.
