TAMPA, Fla. – A fatal car crash at a darkened intersection in Tampa serves as a grim reminder of the lingering dangers in Hurricane Milton’s wake.
The collision occurred Thursday night at the intersection of Florida Avenue and Palm Avenue, where the traffic signal was out due to storm-related power outages.
A 58-year-old man driving a Nissan Sentra collided with a Hyundai Tucson carrying a 35-year-old male driver and a 55-year-old female passenger.

Tragically, the female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Hyundai escaped injury, while the driver of the Nissan sustained serious injuries but is expected to survive.
This accident underscores the hazardous conditions that can persist even after a storm has passed. Drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution, particularly at intersections with non-functioning traffic signals.

All drivers are urged to be extra cautious, especially at intersections, and to treat non-functioning traffic signals as four-way stops. Let’s work together to prevent such tragedies in the future.”
The Tampa Police Department is currently investigating the crash.
