TAMPA, Fla. – Motorists using Gandy Boulevard near the Selmon West Extension should be prepared for brief nighttime traffic stops starting this Friday. The Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority (THEA) announced today that it will be conducting bridge maintenance on the Selmon West Extension bridge over Gandy Boulevard.
The work will take place during the overnight hours, from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM, starting on Friday, August 16th and continuing through Tuesday, August 20th. Crews will utilize the median on Gandy Boulevard to transport materials, with the majority of the maintenance happening within the bridge structure itself.

To ensure safety, up to three rolling closures each night, lasting approximately 15 minutes each, will be in place. During these closures, a safety vehicle will temporarily halt traffic both on and under the bridge.
While THEA acknowledges the inconvenience, it emphasizes that these rolling closures are necessary for the safety of workers and the public. Drivers are encouraged to plan their routes accordingly and exercise caution when traveling in the area during the maintenance period.
