TAMPA, Fla. – The resurfacing project on North Howard Avenue, between West Kennedy Boulevard and West St. Louis Street, has faced weather-related delays, resulting in an extended closure of a small section of the road until August 9, 2024.

Hillsborough County is committed to enhancing transportation mobility and safety through these improvements. The extended closure is necessary to complete the full-depth reconstruction and repaving between West Kennedy Boulevard and West Fig Street.

Despite the delays, all associated work is still expected to be finished by August 2024, weather permitting. Detours are in place to guide motorists around the construction zone, and residents are advised to follow the marked routes.

The comprehensive project includes full resurfacing, installation of rectangular rapid-flashing beacons (RRFBs) for pedestrian safety, reduced speed limits, sidewalk improvements, and new signage and pavement markings.

These enhancements prioritize pedestrian safety and multimodal accommodations. RRFBs, activated by pedestrians, will be installed at several intersections to facilitate safe crossing. Additionally, in response to a request from city officials, the speed limit on North Howard Avenue will be reduced from 40 mph to 35 mph.

Hillsborough County appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as they work to complete this important project safely and efficiently. For any questions or concerns, residents can contact Public Works Customer Service at (813) 635-5400 or email PWCustomerResolution@HCFL.gov.
