TAMPA, Fla. – Several lanes and ramps in downtown Tampa will be temporarily closed for construction starting at 10 p.m. on Monday, September 23rd. These closures will remain in effect until 5 a.m. on Tuesday, September 24th, weather permitting.

The closures will affect southbound I-275 travel lanes under I-4, as well as westbound I-4 ramps to southbound I-275 and Downtown East-West.

Motorists traveling southbound on I-275 will need to detour by exiting at Exit 46A, turning west onto Floribraska Avenue, then south onto Tampa Street, and finally re-entering the interstate using the southbound I-275 entrance ramp.

Meanwhile, westbound I-4 motorists will have to continue onto the northbound I-275 entrance ramp, proceed toward Exit 46B, turn west onto SR 574 (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard), turn south onto Tampa Street, and then re-enter the interstate using the southbound I-275 entrance ramp.

Electronic message boards and signage will be strategically placed to assist motorists navigating the area. Drivers are urged to exercise caution while driving through the work zones and to stay alert for construction workers.

These temporary ramp closures are necessary for crews to carry out overhead bridge work as part of the ongoing Downtown Tampa Interchange (I-275/I-4) Safety and Operational Improvements project, which is slated for completion in 2027.
