Tampa Police Take Barricaded Subject Into Custody Following Monday Shooting

TAMPA, Fla. - A man who barricaded himself inside a home following a shooting on Monday has been taken into custody.

TAMPA, Fla. – A man who barricaded himself inside a home following a shooting on Monday has been taken into custody.

According to police, on Monday, at approximately 1:35 p.m., officers responded to the 1300 block of E. Osbourne Ave in reference to an adult male being shot.

Shortly after officers arrived, the victim, a black male in his late 50s, was transported to a local hospital in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect, 81-year-old Richard Jackson, remained inside the residence and did not respond to officers during initial contact.

At approximately 4:00 p.m., after more than two hours of attempting to make contact with Jackson, the officers successfully took him into custody without further incident or injury to themselves or the suspect.

Jackson was placed under the Baker Act. Criminal charges are still pending.

During this time, E. Osbourne Ave was closed between N. 13th St and N. 15th St., but now all lanes of traffic are back open.

Based on the preliminary investigation, the suspect and victim are known to each other. The victim’s injury was also a result of being grazed by a bullet.

The firearm used by Jackson in the incident was turned in to officers on the scene.

The investigation is still ongoing and there is no threat to the public.
