With a heavy heart, the Tampa Police Department is remembering the life of Officer Matthew David McNeal. Officer McNeal passed away yesterday evening, surrounded by his family, after a lengthy battle with brain cancer.
He joined the Tampa Police Department in June 2014 and made the move from Uniform Patrol to Special Operations Division – Bike Unit four years ago.
During his time with TPD, he earned two Life-Saving Awards, an Excellent Duty Award, one Unit Citation, and a Community Policing Award.
His fellow officers and supervisors remember him as a kind and humble man, who loved being a police officer.
He is survived by his wife and two young children, in addition to several family members, friends, and hundreds of TPD brothers and sisters. The McNeal family is very grateful for the outpouring of support they’ve received during this difficult time.
Funeral arrangements are currently being planned and are not finalized at this time.
