Tampa Police Release Bodycam Footage, 4th Of July Officer-Involved Shooting

TAMPA, Fl. – Tampa Police Department has released the body-worn camera footage from the July 4th officer-involved shooting.

Officers were dispatched to the 3700 block of Temple St. in reference to a fight on July 4, where one subject was reportedly armed with a gun.

Upon arrival, Officer Velazquez observed John Turbe with a gun and a foot chase ensued.

Officer Velazquez gave several commands for Turbe to drop his gun. Seconds later, Turbe turned to face Officer Velazquez and raised his gun.

That’s when Officer Velazquez fired his weapon and struck Turbe. Officers performed CPR while waiting on fire rescue.

Officer Velazquez waived his rights to Marsy’s Law and has been placed on administrative leave. The shooting remains under investigation.
